When Son shrieks, I pay no attention to him

A friend asked me for parenting tips. With due respect, I’m far from being qualified to be one to give advices. Some even said that I’m a good father and husband. I don’t agree to those views as well. My wife can strongly affirm my confession. However, I did gain some experiences taking care of my Son for the past 13 months; full time!

To begin with, Son is super.. err.. hyper (should be the word) active boy. He’s a friendly jolly old kid when seeing strangers but he’s as good as any professional sopranos when he’s at home. In the West, he’ll probably be given a timeout where he has to sit at the corner by himself for fifteen minutes. But in my care, he used to be caned by rattan. When he started to act violently by hitting us or caning us, rattan is now merely a tool to threaten him. At his age of 2 years and four months old, we left him with his cries, shouts and shrieks. He’ll calm down after awhile and starts to plead for attention. I will not give in to his shouts. Too many requests all the time. Sweets, drink (read: Coke), ice cream...

It is hard to divert his focus. At least, he’s willing to read books, stack blocks, play with the animal toy, ride his bicycle, watch Happy Feet, Barney show, Elmo show...

Yes, taking care of Son is tiring but when you see the child’s smiles and being hugged by the kid..
that’s the joy of being a parent.
